FAQs
Q. What kind of skin problems does Dermcareonline.com answer?
A. Dermcareonline.com will accept photos of hair and nail problems, and skin problems anywhere on the body. It is important to take many photos (up to 10) of each problem under good lighting. Try to avoid shadows, and review your photos before you submit the pictures.
Q. Why do I need to send a photograph and a questionnaire?
A. Dermatology is the study of the skin, hair, and nails. Many times visual inspection of the skin problem is all you need to figure out what you have. A history of the skin problem(s) often times gives more clues, making a diagnosis more accurate. It is important to know how long you have had the skin problem, what made it better or worse, and whether you have any symptoms like itching, burning, bleeding or pain.
Q. Is a picture and a history enough to make an accurate diagnosis of the skin problem?
A. Sometimes a healthcare professional needs to touch the problem and perform additional tests to confirm the diagnosis. These tests can include a biopsy, a culture, a microscopic examination, or blood tests done in the doctor's office.
Q. What does Dermcareonline.com give me after I provide digital photographs and a completed questionnaire?
A. Within 24 hours after you submit your information, a board certified dermatologist will send you a response based upon the information that you provided. The response will include up to 3 possible answers.
Q. What do I do once I have an answer?
A. You can learn more about the skin problems in the patient education library provided for you by Dermcareonline.com. The library was written to help you understand your condition. You will learn what caused the problem, how to treat it, and if additional tests or workup is needed. You can take this information to you primary care doctor or your healthcare provider for additional evaluation and treatment. This information gives you the power to make choices about your skin, hair, and nails.
Q. Does this take the place of seeing a doctor?
A. Dermcareonline.com is a service provided to you by board certified dermatologists. A dermatologist is a skin doctor who has had years of training in diagnosing and treating common and rare skin diseases. A dermatologist can look at a spot or a rash and accurately make a diagnosis.
As stated by the medical waiver, dermcareonline.com does not replace a doctor visit. Additional inspection and tests might be needed to confirm a diagnosis.
